The Cultural School of the municipalities of Åseral, Audnedal, and Hægebostad, is a combined effort on the part of those three municipalities to provide cultural education at a local level. As well as increasing the opportunities for pupils to study art and music locally, it also provides a welcomed impetus to existing local cultural activities.

The school has existed in its present form since 2003. Its first principal was Professor of Music and Singing Master, Arne Stakkeland. The current principal is the highly knowledgeable and experienced piano player and teacher, Kjell Gierstae. Mr. Stakkeland, in addition to being Professor at the University of Münster , continues to act as Singing Master.

Today the school has 230 pupils, studying Music, Fine Arts, and Drama. The Music department alone accounts for 12 different disciplines and we are proud to be able to offer courses of a very high level, presented by particularly well qualified and highly trained teachers.

The school is located in very south of Norway , in the west of the county of Vest-Agder ; its location is somewhat inland, though not too far from the sea. We serve an area of 1600 square kilometres, three-and-a-half times the size of Oslo city. We go far outside our own region in order to find the highly qualified staff that we employ.

Lessons are held in existing schools in the area, so that most students are able to study close to home.

We are proud of our school and of being able to offer to rural areas a high level of education that matches that of most urban-based schools.

Everyone is welcome to join our school.
